MIDNIGHT BLUE were a British Melodic Rock Band of the late 80’s and early 90’s, fronted by former RAINBOW and current TANK lead singer Doogie White and HEAVY PETTIN’ / GUN / BRUCE DICKINSON guitarist Alex Dickson. The band at the time was completed by TOBRUK / FM / UFO keyboard player Jem Davis, ex BLACKWYCH bass player Niall Canning and ex TOBRUK drummer Eddie Fincher.

Their one and only album ‘Take The Money And Run’ saw a Japanese release in 1994 on Zero Records and now gets a release for the first time in Europe on Yesterrock.

Lead singer Doogie White today says about this band: "Midnight Blue were a great rock band and it took my career up a level from LA PAZ mainly because we were based in London and we had access to everyone who needed to see us on a regular basis. It was a shame that we didn't get the big deal but hey, that's rock 'n' roll, and if we had I would have missed out on all the other great opportunities that have come my way. Things happen for a reason...maybe!"

This stellar Melodic Rock record is regarded as one of the finest releases of this genre by an UK artist from the 90’s and will please every fan of bands such as FM, HEARTLAND, PRAYING MANTIS or TOBRUK. Highlights on ‘Take The Money And Run’ include the opener ‘I Surrender’, a fast Rock tune with a catchy chorus, the keyboard driven songs ‘Call Me’ and ‘Hands Of A Lover’, the funky, groovy title track and the ballads ‘Remember’ and ‘One Way To Heaven’.

Yesterrock now re-release this gem with a new cover artwork, a remastered sound and two previously unreleased bonus tracks called ‘Hurts When We Do It’ and ‘Only Girl’.

A RUA FM, Rádio Universitária do Algarve prepara a celebração dos seus 10 anos de
existência, com a apresentação de novidades que pretendem aproximar ainda mais a
RUA FM da comunidade e das instituições.

A Campanha RUA FM 2.0 – A Revelação inicia-se a 6 de Fevereiro com o lançamento
de uma página web renovada, com novas funcionalidades, acesso a podcasts, mais
informação e também a inserção de uma componente vídeo.

Para além desta componente electrónica, novas rubricas vão estar no ar ao longo do
ano, como por exemplo a “Ciência à Conversa” com a participação dos Centros de
Ciência Viva do Algarve e “Conto de Reis” que apresenta em minutos contos
tradicionais. A música tradicional portuguesa e europeia terão o seu tempo de antena
com a rubrica “Sopa da Pedra” e a Internet será tema central do “Domínios pt”.

Ainda com o objectivo de uma maior aproximação à comunidade, a RUA FM retoma este
ano as tertúlias, a acontecer à quinta-feira num espaço exterior, com novo formato
denominado de Café Central. Além dos debates propostos pela RUA, pretende-se que
as instituições regionais também sugiram e sejam promotores dos temas a debater
através desta plataforma.
O público universitário terá a oportunidade de participar activamente nas emissões que
agora periodicamente marcarão presença nos Campi da Universidade do Algarve.
As redes sociais não serão descuradas com uma maior presença e interacção com os
ouvintes.

A RUA FM nasceu em 2002, propriedade da Universidade do Algarve e da Associação
Académica, e tem conquistado um espaço importante na comunidade revelando-se uma
rádio de referência na promoção de informação cultural e académica. Ao nível musical

ICONIC SINGER/SONGWRITER JACK BLADES TO RELEASE NEW SOLO ALBUM: “ROCK N’ ROLL RIDE”

Much-beloved singer/songwriter/bass player extraordinaire Jack Blades is slated to release his brand new solo album, ROCK N’ ROLL RIDE, on March 23rd in Europe and March 27th in North America via Frontiers Records. “Ahead Of Time“ arrives four years after the self titled debut album and marks the second chapter in the history of “Frozen Rain“. In 2008 the dream of the Belgian song writer & multi-instrumentalist Kurt Vereecke became reality when the first album of his AOR / Melodic Rock project was released. The very positive feedback of fans and reviewers alike paved the way for a follow-up of the successful first “Frozen Rain“ record.

Already early on some changes for album no. 2 were considered and eventually put into action. Thus all songs of the album were recorded with a constant band line-up of six musicians, besides Kurt Vereecke (keyboards, bass, acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Jurgen Vitrier (keyboards) and Vincent De Laat (bass) were already on board for the debut album. Strengthening the Belgian party of the “Frozen Rain“ team on “Ahead Of Time“ are Rik Priem (rhythm, solo and acoustic guitars) and Kurt’s brother Hans Vereecke (drums). The position as the front man on the mic stand is now occupied by one of the most distinctive German Rock shouters, Carsten ‘Lizard’ Schulz (Evidence One, Paradise Inc., ex-Domain).

Rik’s virtuoso guitar play and the decision to have Carsten as the sole lead vocalist on all songs (on the debut five singers shared the vocals) are a tremendous gain for “Frozen Rain“. In addition the songs sound tighter and more powerful thanks to the consistent line-up of musicians that delivers a real band feel on each cut and the refining of the material through the mix by Alessandro Del Vecchio (Edge Of Forever, Eden’s Curse, Shining Line, Lionville) and the mastering by Dennis Ward (Unisonic, Pink Cream 69, Sunstorm).

Joe Lynn Turner’s career has had a number of highlights. From his early days with Fandango to the Rainbow success and later on with Deep Purple and Yngwie Malmsteen, and his solo career, the New Jersey-born singer has covered a wide number of musical styles with his inimitable vocals.

Certainly he left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of Melodic Rock fans when, in 1985, after the break-up of Rainbow, Turner released his first solo album entitled “Rescue You”. He co-wrote most of the songs with keyboardist Al Greenwood (ex Foreigner). The first single, "Endlessly," received extensive airplay on radio and MTV. Tours with Night Ranger and Pat Benatar followed. He also wrote more songs for a follow up album in a similar style, but fate called him in 1988 to join the Swedish guitar hero Yngwie Malmsteen for the “Odyssey” album, one of the most successful of his career.

Years later, when Turner got in touch with Frontiers Records President Serafino Perugino, the idea of digging some old gems and to create an ultimate Joe Lynn Turner Melodic Rock/AOR dream came about. This brought about the release of the first SUNSTORM album in 2006 and of the follow up “House of Dreams” 3 years later.

While the first two albums basic inspiration came from the AOR catalogue of songs that Turner penned for himself or other artists of the genre, for the third album it was decided to look at Turner’s numerous vocal sessions he did in the 80’s as background vocalist for other artists. This brought to the resurrection of some Michael Bolton’s AOR gems such as “Gina” (originally included on “The Hunger” album, where Turner contributed with background vocals), and “Emotional Fire” which Bolton penned for the “Heart of Stone” album from Cher (in which Turner again appeared as background vocalist).

With production and mix once again under the expert hands of Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Place Vendome, Angra etc.) and a tracklisting rounded out by some amazing songs written by the likes of Soren Kronkvist (Crash the System, Issa), Tom and James Martin (Vega, Sunstorm, Khymera) and Daniel Palmqvist (Xorigin, The Murder of My Sweet), the third Sunstorm album “Emotional Fire” is destined to reignite the Melodic Rock passion in every fan!

Sonic Station is a new Westcoast AOR Project put together by Alexander Kronbrink (a swedish guitarist, composer and producer). Alexander is a young musician who learned his skills working with smooth Jazz star Jonathan Fritzén – who lived in his neighborhood. Later on – after being introduced to Lee Ritenour - Alexander started to see a clearer direction in his playing. Through Ritenour he discovered the music of such giants as Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, composer and producer David Foster and guitarist Jay Graydon, to mention a few.
While studying music at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, he teamed up with Marika Willstedt, a singer and piano player and they started writing music and playing together. This collaboration turned out to be the beginning of the Sonic Station record.
Marika is today a well known artist and session musician in Sweden after appearing as pianist and teamleader in a prime time tv-show on national television. She sings and plays keyboards on the Sonic Station record and has also written most of the lyrics. Two of the songs have lyrics by Alexander’s father, Hans Kronbrink.
During the second half of the 00’s, while working on his Sonic Station project, Alexander also played the guitar with different artists and groups. Among them the thrilling side project Moonlight Sailors with, once again, his friend Jonathan Fritzén on keyboards, accompanied by drummer Aron Mellergård and bass player Henrik Linder. The last two are the founders of amazing group Dirty Loops, celebrated by both Lee Ritenour and Jay Graydon! Mellergård and Linder have also contributed with their talents on the Sonic Station record.
From the very beginning the Sonic Station project has been based in the 80’s AOR music (influenced by Toto, Mr Mister and Journey) and the West Coast-sound of Airplay and Chicago. To get the most quality out of each song Alexander, who composed ten tracks and also produced and arranged the whole record, engaged four singers with different singing styles and voices: Marika Willstedt, Magnus Bäcklund, Kristoffer Fogelmark and Tove Lo.
Backed up by a long line of session musicians and Alexander’s brilliant guitar playing Sonic Station is an expressive and warm record, where each song has an obvious and immediate hit feeling. With Sonic Station, Alexander Kronbrink has taken the 80’s into the future!

Michael Thompson is nowadays one of the leading guitar players of the world. He was awarded the "Distinguished Alumni" award from his alma mater Berklee College of Music to commemorate his contributions to the music industry. Berklee's program for the event noted that "he is widely regarded as being among the elite studio session players, and his amazing list of credits includes such prominent names as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, 'N Sync, Toni Braxton, Phil Collins, Rod Stewart, the Scorpions, Vince Neil, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton, Mariah Carey, Bette Midler, Madonna, Babyface, En Vogue, Gloria Estefan, Stanley Clarke and Ricky Martin."

Originally from New York, Michael moved to Los Angelesin 1979 to begin a studio musician career. In 1988, after working to try and get a deal with his band Slang, he finally got signed by Geffen Records to release one album entitled "How Long", under the Michael Thompson Band (M.T.B.) monicker.

On "How Long" more great studio musicians appeared as guests, in particular drummer-maestro Terry Bozzio, singer Moon Calhoun (ex The Strand), Pat Torpey (later on drummer with Mr Big), bassist Jimmy Haslip, John Elefante (Kansas), Toto's Bobby Kimball and Great White associates Michael Lardie and Wyn Davis (who also produced the album). Songwriters would include, among others, AOR luminaries such as: Jeff Paris, Mark Spiro, Billy Trudel and Brett Walker.

As of today “How Long” is still regarded as one of the highest examples of hi-tech AOR / West Coast, with a superb production and immaculate songwriting. Reissued in 2007 with 3 bonus tracks, it started a relationship between Michael Thompson and Frontiers who brought the anticipated release of the new Michael Thompson Band album in early 2012.

This time Michael teamed up with the awesome singer Larry King from the band Soleil Moon. Larry brought a new and more rocking approach to the MTB sound but certainly the trademark elements of songwriting and melodies are still to be found in the new album “Future Past”. The production of the album is just flawless and “Future Past” is destined to become soon another AOR music classic. Get it !

On February 1st 2009, aradio announcement for "Koh Sakai’s Burrn Presents: Heavy Metal Syndicate" contained a short message from Mr. Big, announcing the reunion of the original lineup featuring Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan and Pat Torpey, to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their debut album. A press conference in Japan in February generated much excitement, and a tour of the country starting in June was announced, with shows in ten locations (including the BUDOKAN). That tour eventually brought to the release of a Live CD and DVD and the enthusiasm surrounding the reunion convinced the band to go back to the studio to write and record a new album entitled “What If...”.
The album went on to become gold in Japan and the band played 11 dates in support of the release. At the end of January 2011, during a week long promotion trip to promote the album and tour, they were invited to the WOWOW TV Studios in Tokyo to perform a special show in an acoustic setting.
When the talk of a broadcast first came up, the guys wanted to present something different than they’ve ever done before. Thus the idea of an acoustic show came about and a string quintet was brought in to enhance the project even more, with arrangements provided by Takashi Miyazaki. Although Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan hooked up electric on a few songs, the show was still very much acoustic in nature throughout. Pat Torpey played various acoustic percussion instruments during the gig.
The result from that magic night in Tokyo is now here: 10 Mr Big classics in a completely new and fresh dress and a portrait from the very first ever acoustic show from the band.

Formed in 1988, MR. BIG forged its place in hard rock history by combining trademark "shredding" musicianship with awesome vocal harmonies. The original lineup produced numerous hit songs that ranged across a wide array of rock genres, be it ballads, heavy metal, or blues rock. Their hits included "To Be With You" (Billboard Hot 100 number one single in 15 countries for weeks, in 1991, propelling the band the band to huge international success and record sales in the multi-millions), "Wild World", "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind", "Just Take My Heart", and a host of heavy metal songs that were played mostly during their live performances: "Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy", "Addicted to that Rush", "Colorado Bulldog", and "Take Cover". Mr. Big broke up in 2002 after a farewell tour and reunited with much acclaim 7 years later.

Klaus Luleys career consists of numerous highlights. Way back in the early 80’s of the last century he was the frontman of German based RCA recording artists TOKYO and put out three superb Melodic Rock albums. After the demise of the band he formed the band CRAAFT together with Reinhold Besser and Franz Keil. Switching to CBS Records they had a huge impact in touring with bands such as Queen, Marillion, Gary Moore, Level 42, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Meat Loaf. Albums like their mighty debut ‘Craaft’ or ´Second honeymoon´ are still sought after in every rock collection.

Furthermore the experienced singer/songwriter has penned for many artists amongst Meat Loaf and been in the studio singing sessions with Donna Summer, Jennifer Rush or Giorgio Moroder. After meeting Producer Michael Voss (Mad Max, Michael Schenker) two years ago, they have been planning to record a full new album with Luley’s songs to showcase his abilities.
The new label home was provided by Georg Siegl of AOR Heaven who always has been a fan of Luley and gave the whole project the kick off.

Mark Reale, o fundador e lendário guitarrista dos RIOT, faleceu esta quarta-feira, 25 de janeiro, num hospital em San Antonio (USA) devido a complicações decorrentes da doença de Crohn - uma doença que ele lutou durante grande parte da sua vida. Mark tinha 56 anos de idade.
Em comunicado no site oficial, a banda referiu : "Para os amigos e fãs de Mark Reale e dos RIOT, estamos profundamente tristes em confirmar que Mark perdeu a sua batalha contra a doença. Todos os pensamentos e orações são apreciadas pela família de Mark, amigos e colegas de banda nesta hora difícil."

Deep Purple to Release New Studio Album Next Year

British hard rock legends Deep Purple are very excited by the prospect of making a new and significant album. To that end, they have decided to extend their writing and recording period through the summer of 2012.

Commented Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan: "We know we will disappoint some of our fans this summer. However, we look forward very much to our autumn/winter tour and continuing our worldwide tour with our new album in 2013."

Durung a 2011 interview with U.K.'s Express & Star, Gillan was asked when fans might be able to expect Deep Purple's follow-up to 2005's "Rapture Of The Deep" album.

"The fact is that we've been touring flat out," said Gillan. "We did 48 countries last year. We're getting so much off on that we just don't feel the drive at the moment for writing."

Gillan did reveal, though, that Deep Purple convened for a mini writing session earlier in the year.

"We were in Spain for a little while and we had a week off," he said. "We spent most of the time in the bar, to be honest with you. It was a good session, but nothing absolutely dynamic came out of it.

"I think to get some progress as far as an album's concerned you've got to have a target, you've got to work to a date, and that gives you pressure. If you've got the pressure, you get stuff done. We don't have a plan, to be honest.

"Things have always been chaos, certainly since I joined, and we've never been able to plan anything. If we'd been able to make plans, we'd probably have retired by now!"

"People like to do stuff that they're good at, that they enjoy, that they get something out of. So while it's fun and we're all getting older and bits are dropping off here and there, it's still great. I think there probably will be another album.

"And because we're not doing an album (right now) doesn't mean I don't write every day. It's a day off today and for me it's a full day at the office. This morning is interviews and this afternoon I've got two or three interesting pieces I'm working on at the moment. I write every day and so when I do come round to making an album there's never a shortage of what I call color material."

Deep Purple's 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", was released in November 2005. It was the fourth studio CD from Deep Purple since guitarist Steve Morse joined the band in 1994. It was also the second album to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey.

"Rapture of the Deep" was produced by Mike Bradford, who also worked on the band's previous release, 2003's "Bananas".

DR SIN lançam um álbum verdadeiramente "Animal"!!!

Na terminologia do Rock, quando um fã sente oprimeiro impacto ao ouvir um álbum que aprecia, instintivamente comenta: “Éanimal!”. O novo disco de estúdio do grupo brasileiro Dr. Sin, intitulado“Animal”, promete comprovar esta tendência natural. Nenhuma palavra a maispoderia explicitar o trabalho coeso e revigorado dos irmãos Busic – Andria(vocal e baixo) e Ivan (bateria e vocal) – e do guitarrista Edu Ardanuy,músicos que estão juntos com o Dr. Sin desde 1993 e colecionam grandesconquistas.

O Hard Rock, sempre versátil, é envolto em camadas, seja do peso distorcido doHeavy Metal à virtuose do Progressivo. Isto foi sendo mostrado ao longo destajornada na estrada: foram cinco álbuns de inéditas, dois ao vivo e um decovers, além de diversas participações especiais e trabalhos paralelos.

Gravado no estúdio Studio Sonata 84 (SP) eproduzido por Andria Busic, o novo álbum abre com a acelerada faixa-título,retomando o Hard virtuoso do início de carreira. Na linha Mr. Big, Extreme,David Lee Roth (solo), mostra a maturidade que os músicos atingiram neste pontoda carreira. Já o peso à la Black Sabbath e tipicamente Heavy Metal vem com acadenciada “Lady Lust”, em que o grupo fala sobre a luxúria, um dos pecadoscapitais e que se encaixa no clima tenso e arrastado.

O peso é mantido com “U R Deleted”, tendoprovavelmente um dos riffs mais pesados criados por Edu Ardanuy, mas aindaassim mantendo os elementos de Hard Rock típicos da banda. Sem baixar a guarda,o álbum segue com “Faster Than A Bullet”, “Train Of Pain” e “Seven Sins”, todasevidenciando a pegada Hard N’Heavy.

A escolha da ordem das faixas foi bem estudada ea acalmada vem com a balada emocional “Pray For Tomorrow”. Provavelmente amúsica mais inspirada já criada pelo Dr. Sin, se destaca tanto pela harmoniainstrumental como pelos vocais, falando sobre a consciência humana do estadoatual do planeta e de toda forma de vida existente nele.

O disco ainda presta uma homenagem a um dosgrandes heróis do Rock pesado de todos os tempos: Ronnie James Dio. “The King”remete diretamente às composições do falecido vocalista, ex-Black Sabbath,Rainbow e Dio. O Hard N’Heavy acelerado e quebrado “Heroes” fala sobre aprofissão de bombeiro, citando inclusive as comunicações originais do momentoem que os bombeiros de Nova York estavam no World Trade Center no trágico 11 desetembro.

Outra de ligação imediata com a realidade é“Life”. Mais que um aviso, é um testemunho: “A vida pode te derrubar”.
Com estrutura direta e pesada, fala sobre uma pessoa de idade em depressão, sesentindo solitária e derrotada pela vida.

Mudando de foco vem “Drifter”, um Blues/ Rock àla Jimi Hendrix, e o Prog de “Those Days”, que remete ao Rush, outra grandeinfluência do Dr. Sin. A tendência Prog segue com “Witness”, que narra a versãode uma pessoa que presencia um crime em uma metrópole: “A testemunha de umcrime é sempre uma vítima”, diz o refrão.
Mantendo um instrumental na escola Rush e Van Halen, a descontraída “May TheForce Be With You” é inspirada na série de ficção científica escrita por GeorgeLucas: “Star Wars”. A intenção foi mostrar que nem tudo precisa ser sisudo eburocrático no Rock.

Afora os temas recentes, “Animal” ainda traz umacomposição instrumental intitulada “Ninja”, primeira música que Edu, Andria eIvan criaram juntos e que costumavam tocar nos primeiros anos de existência dabanda.
“Animal”: quem sabe faz ao vivo, em estúdio e consegue criar composiçõesmarcantes. O tempo dirá disso, mas se a primeira impressão é a que fica, saibaque, invariavelmente, você também irá dizer: “Este CD é animal!”.

DR SIN - Do Brasil para o mundo!!!

Pormuitas vezes foram aclamados como melhores músicos e melhor banda pelasrevistas especializadas. É quase impossível ler uma revista de música, sem veras entrevistas e os anúncios do DR SIN. A primeira apresentação brasileira nagrande mídia foi durante o festival Hollywood Rock, em 1993, onde dividiram opalco com Nirvana e L7. Isso era tudo que precisavam para mostrar ao mundo queestavam prontos para o rock.

Duranteaquelas noites, DR.SIN realizou concertos inacreditáveis. Em 1993,arriscaram-se a ir para os EUA. E, após alguns concertos por lá, assinaram coma Warner International e o álbum (DR SIN) foi lançado em nove países. Seusegundo álbum (BRUTAL) foi lançado no Japão sob o nome de (SILENT SCREAM),seguido pelo álbum (INSINITY) e o álbum ao vivo (LIVE IN BRAZIL). O álbum (LIVEIN BRAZIL) fez parte de um /box-set/ de Yngwie Malmsteen.

Todosesses álbuns, vídeos, concertos e festivais ajudaram DR SIN a alcançar mais emais sucesso e um número cada vez maior de fãs. O álbum (INSINITY) teve participaçõesmuito especiais. Uma delas foi Jonnathan Mover (ex baterista do Joe Satriani,Alice Cooper, Saigon Kick e Einstein) na música “Imnsonia”, outra, Silvio Luiz,um dos comentaristas brasileiros de esportes mais famosos, na música “Futebol,Mulher e Rock’n’Roll”, que se tornou um dos grandes /hits/ dabanda. Em 2000, DR SIN lançou no Brasil, de um modo bem singular, outro álbum(DR SIN II). Foi distribuído em bancas de jornais por todo país.

Destavez, o novo trabalho continha uma surpresa, Michael Vescera nos vocais, umfamoso cantor americano, ex integrante de Yngwie Malmsteen, Loudness, Obsessione MVP. Outros convidados especiais foram Sergio Buss (Steve Vai, Tritone) eRoland Grapow (atual Masterplan e ex integrante do Helloween).

Esse CDtornou-se um grande sucesso. Em 2002, foi a vez de um DVD e um álbum duplo,gravado durante um concerto realizado em São Paulo, em homenagem aos 10 anos dabanda, intitulados (10 ANOS AO VIVO). Esse show teve um convidado muitoespecial, André Matos (ex Angra/Shaaman), cantando um dos grandes /hits/do DR SIN, chamado “Fire”. O CD seguinte foi compilado com covers que possuem apalavra DOCTOR em seus títulos, tais como “Calling Dr.Love” (KISS), “Rock andRoll Doctor” (BLACK SABBATH), “Dr Feelgood” (MÖTLEY CRUE), “Doctor,Doctor”(UFO), “Dr.Roberts” (BEATLES), “Somebody Get Me a Doctor” (VAN HALEN),entre outros.

Em2007, DR SIN lança (BRAVO), seu oitavo álbum, que foi concebido baseado nosfatos e sentimentos que o ser humano experimenta no seu dia-a-dia. É um álbumpesado e poderoso. É muito criativo e mistura técnica com excelentes melodias.

A 15.ª edição do SWR barroselas metalfest, agendada para 26 a 30 de Abril de 2012, já tem definida uma boa parte do seu cartaz. A celebração dos quinze anos do festival SWR barroselas metalfest, um evento de renome internacional entre os adeptos das sonoridades mais extremas, motiva uma edição especial alargada a cinco dias.
Sendo um dos nomes mais cimeiros do black metal da actualidade, os Immortal deslocam-se ao nosso país para um espectáculo exclusivo em que se poderão ouvir alguns dos temas mais influentes da banda ao seu estilo muito próprio. Os suecos Candlemass são também uma das grandes atracções do evento. Mantendo o estatuto de uma das maiores referências do doom metal desde o início dos anos noventa, a presença de Candlemass antecipa momentos de muito frio no palco principal do SWR barroselas metalfest XIV.

Frontiers Records is pleased to celebrate PRETTY MAIDS’ Thirtieth Anniversary with the release of the band’s first ever live 2CD/DVD package entitled “It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)” on March 23rd in Europe and March 27th in North America.

Following the highly acclaimed 2010 album “Pandemonium”, Danish melodic hard rockers, Pretty Maids have been touring more or less constantly throughout 2010/2011. They undertook a full scale European tour in 2010 and have since played several festivals and occasional gigs. The overwhelming response to the new songs and the ongoing requests coming from the fans prompted the band to take their chance and record a live 2CD/DVD last October 1st 2011. Pretty Maids gathered in Pratteln, Switzerland with an enthusiastic and highly explosive crowd of die hard fans and followers to fulfill the demand, for an energetic and memorable performance which was recorded with a fully equipped mobile studio and cameras.

“Riding on the success of our previous studio album Pandemonium and with maybe the strongest line up ever, we thought that we’d make some kind of a live document of what this band is all about in the present time” tells singer Ronnie Atkins. “It Comes Alive is purely and simply a tribute to all our fans and supporters throughout the world, who gave us so many memorable moments, so much pleasure and making our childhood dreams come through”.

“The band’s spirit during the last couple of years has been better than in a long long time” says Atkins. And “It Comes Alive (Maid in Switzerland)” shows the band at the top of their game, performing songs from a 30 year long career.

“It’s always difficult to make a set list that satisfies everyone” continues the singer, “It’s a combination of what the crowd expect us to play and what we like to play ourselves ! But of course there are songs like Futureworld and Red hot and heavy that we have been playing for the last 25 years so, they still get a new life every time we play ‘em and still seem to please our audience. But basically what you will find on this Live album are the songs that we toured with on the Pandemonium tour, with a few exceptions”.

EMI are proud to announce the release of a new live IRON MAIDEN Blu-Ray, 2DVD Set and Double Soundtrack Album on Monday March 26th (March 27th Canada and USA (via UMe)).

"EN VIVO!" was filmed on 10th April 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011.

Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments "For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we're always so overwhelmed by the fans' reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it's got better and better each time!

This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn't due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!"

The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden's longstanding producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden's most recent studio album, 2010's The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band's vast and varied catalogue. DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary, BEHIND THE BEAST. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden's own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality "home movie" for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live Stadium shows around the World out of the belly of a Boeing 757. FURYON is a new band from the UK who like nothing more than to challenge expectations. Raised on a diet of heavy metal, prog, and classic rock, FURYON mix all these components for a truly unique and contemporary sound. Delivering huge rock radio friendly songs, with technically challenging, yet infectiously catchy musicianship. Dedicated to one sole purpose, making hard hitting songs that will stand the test of time. “"Our music is good songs with touches of intelligence” says singer Matt Mitchell, “There are a many different moods that come out from this album and all the songs have meaning and substance. What separates FURYON from the crowd is the sheer quality of their musicianship. Boasting two truly world class guitarists in the form of Chris Green and Pat “The Shred” Heath, FURYON have few peers when it comes to the quality of their iconic riffs, and jaw dropping solos. Backing them up is one of the tightest rhythm sections the rock world has to offer with the awesome combination of Lee Farmery, and Alex (Nickel) Bowen. Leading from the front is the outstanding vocal versatility of Matt Mitchell, whose emotion drenched voice effortlessly moves between melodic and crunchingly heavy. “We really have been inspired by many bands over the time (as all musicians and writers are)” continues Matt, “but for this album inspirations from bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Tool, Mastodon, Alter Bridge and Iron Maiden spring to mind”.

In 2009, after a sell out tour, and accompanying EP, FURYON set about the serious business of writing their debut album. The early demo’s reached the ears of US producer Rick Beato (SHINEDOWN, FOZZY), and a powerful and symbiotic relationship was formed. “Our hook up with Rick Beato was through Kip Winger” recalls Matt. “We toured with Winger on their Karma tour and we had spoken with Kip about the band Shinedown and how we liked there productions. Kip hooked us up with Rick and to our delight he was interested in doing the album. Rick is a truly great Producer and writer”.

Released independently on a low profile and later covermounted on Metal Hammer UK, “Gravitas” received already rave responses from the press, including:

Extraordinary performer and amazing vocalist throughout, Jeff Scott Soto blasts through these hard rocking tracks with energy and masters the transition smoothly from heavy rock to a delicate ballad. For his new album “Damage Control”, Jeff has turned to many of his past influences and most requested aspects of his career by blending the art of Melodic Rock with Hard Rock throughout.

“I feel Damage Control is more of a return to what my fans would expect to hear from me. It’s a perfect blend of my first two solo albums with Frontiers Records; Prism and Lost in the Translation, but also mixes in some of my favorite moments of my past bands such as Talisman and Soul SirkUS” tells Jeff. “It is heavy, AOR, hard rock with loads of great riffs and melodies”

“Damage Control” was recorded in the fall of 2011 and is completed with appearances and co-writing along with his former and current band mates together with many guests including Jamie Borger and Nalley Påhlsson (Treat), Casey Grillo (Kamelot), Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger) and legendary Y&T founding member Dave Meniketti. Jeff recalls: “Y&T drummer Mike Vanderhule played drums on a track and suggested I bring Dave on but, as he is a long time friend and one on the ‘wish list’ of people I would have loved to have, I didn’t want to get an excuse that he was too busy or not interested, to my surprise I got neither... he was willing to do it and I was not only grateful but beyond pleased to work with another musical hero!”

Mark Reale (Riot) has been admitted to a San Antonio hospital...

Riot founder and guitarist Mark Reale has been admitted to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition due to complications of Crohn's disease. Subsequently, there is a possibility that he may not appear in the band's upcoming performances in the Northeast and aboard the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise to Grand Cayman.

Mark has been battling Crohn's for most of his life, working and performing while enduring almost constant pain and the side effects of treatment for his illness. He was in Texas bravely attempting to practice for the shows, but was felled by a severe onset of Crohn's symptoms leaving him in the Intensive Care Unit at an undisclosed facility.

The band has agreed that the performances will take place as scheduled with the possibility that Mark may not be well enough in time to appear. Riot would also like to acknowledge that Mark has been struggling with these symptoms throughout the production of their new album, Immortal Soul, and that guitarist Mike Flyntz recorded a major portion of the guitars on the album with Mark's creative direction while he was unable to perform.

For this reason, fans can be assured that the show will be as exciting as anything Riot has ever staged, even if Mike needs to hold down double guitar duty. Mark will be sorely missed in this event, but the shows will go on.

We ask fans and friends of the band to pray for Mark's speedy recovery, and to support the band in our efforts to bring you the Riot reunion shows that have been so long in the making. While Mark's family insists on privacy during this difficult time, your prayers and good wishes will make it to his bedside until he is able to return to the stage.

Os norte-americanos Red Fang são a banda escolhida pelos Mastodon para a primeira parte do aguardado concerto no Coliseu de Lisboa, dia 22 de Janeiro.

Com dois álbuns editados, "Red Fang" (2009) e "Murder the Mountains" (2011), os Red Fang cruzam vários géneros musicais, que vão do Rock ao Stoner, passando pelo Metal. Para além de serem reconhecidos pela energia em palco, os Red Fang captaram a atenção da crítica com vídeos hilariantes, sempre realizados por Whitey McConnaughy (Band of Horses, Turbonegro, Flogging Molly).

Finalmente, os poderosos Mastodon estreiam-se em Portugal num concerto em nome próprio, dia 22 de Janeiro do próximo ano. Após várias actuações em festivais nacionais, os norte-americanos apresentam o novo álbum, "The Hunther", no Coliseu de Lisboa.

Desde que editaram o álbum de estreia, "Remission" (2002), os Mastodon têm vindo a cimentar a sua posição como a mais importante banda de metal da sua geração. A mistura de sludge, stoner e metal, colocou-os num patamar praticamente inalcançável.

Depois de anunciadas as presenças de ARCH ENEMY, OVERKILL, ARCTURUS, ENSLAVED, TEXTURES e NORTHLAND na IV Edição do festival Vagos Open Air, chega a altura de revelar duas novas adições ao cartaz, sendo que ambas vêm engrandecer ainda mais o evento que, nos dias 3 e 4 de agosto, vai transformar a Lagoa de Galvão numa verdadeira Meca do metal contemporâneo. Os suíços ELUVEITIE e os taiwanesesCHTHONIC estão entre as mais bem sucedidas, excitantes e exóticas propostas da música extrema feita neste novo milénio, provando que a qualidade dentro deste género musical não conhece fronteiras, raças ou credos. Com as suas respetivas abordagens muito próprias ao folk e ao black metal, respetivamente, são dois nomes que vêm também reforçar a natureza versátil e o caráter eclético que se pretende de um festival que, com suas muito bem sucedidas primeiras três edições, já se afirmou como um ponto de paragem obrigatória para todos os que querem ouvir e ver ao vivo a melhor música pesada que se vai fazendo atualmente a nível mundial.
Os ELUVEITIE nasceram, corria o ano de 2002, em Winterthur, uma pequena comuna da Suíça, com pouco mais de 100 000 habitantes. Talvez tenha sido precisamente o isolamento e a parca tradição no que toca à música pesada na sua região que inspirou Chrigel Glanzmann a criar uma visão muito pessoal do metal. Pegando no thrash/death melódico feito segundo as regras estabelecidas em Gotemburgo durante os anos 90, o multi-instrumentista injetou-lhe melodias tradicionais celtas e, através do uso de instrumentos como a flauta e a gaita de foles, surpreendeu muita gente em 2006 com «Spirit», a estreia do projeto em álbum. Originalmente idealizados apenas como uma experiência de estúdio, os ELUVEITIE acabaram por transformar-se numa banda a sério e, logo no ano seguinte, assinaram contrato com a Nuclear Blast para a edição do segundo registo de originais. «Slania» tomou de assalto as tabelas de vendas na Suíça e na Alemanha e, desde então, o coletivo não parou de conquistar seguidores. Em 2009 arriscaram tudo e gravaram um disco acústico, que se revelou um enorme sucesso junto dos apreciadores de folk e os viu tocar perante plateias rendidas por toda a Europa e Estados Unidos. «Everything Remains As It Always Was», de 2010, marcou o regresso ao peso que caracterizou os primeiros álbuns e agora, já com quatro discos e centenas de concertos na bagagem, os oito músicos estão prontos para conquistar o resto do mundo com o novo «Helvetios».
Os CHTHONIC, por seu lado, vêm de um país – Taiwan, também conhecido como Ilha Formosa – que não tem tradição absolutamente nenhuma em termos de rock... Muito menos de qualquer tipo de expressão artística extrema. No entanto, isso não impediu Freddy Lim, Jesse Liu, Doris Yeh, CJ Kao e Dani Wang de, em 1995, darem os primeiros passos na criação da sua própria versão do death/black metal melódico e de, eventualmente, se transformarem na primeira banda do seu país a ganhar exposição a nível internacional. Com a edição dos três primeiros discos de longa-duração, o grupo começou a gerar algum falatório à sua volta a nível underground, mas foi finalmente com o lançamento de «Seediq Bale», dez anos depois da formação do grupo, que ganharam o reconhecimento merecido fora do seu país de origem. A peculiar fusão de metal moderno com elementos tradicionais da música taiwanesa – com destaque para a inteligente utilização do hena, um instrumento semelhante ao violino ocidental – transformou-os no primeiro coletivo asiático a integrar o cartaz do gigantesco festival itinerante Ozzfest e a singularidade da música do quinteto, aliada a uma imagem muito forte e a espetáculos demolidores ao lado de nomes consagrados como Cradle Of Filth e Nile, valeu-lhes um Golden Music Award. «Mirror Of Retribution» e «Takasago Army», de 2009 e 2011, permitiram-lhes dar continuidade ao processo de crescimento e vieram solidificar de uma vez por todas a sua posição como uma das propostas mais invulgares e peculiares no espectro da música pesada atual.
Apesar do aumento do IVA, o preço dos bilhetes para o Vagos Open Air 2012 não será alterado, mantendo-se o bilhete diário a 30,00 euros e o passe 2 dias a 50,00 euros. Passe já à venda nos locais habituais.

Helder Oliveira - Talentoso guitarrista viseense estreia-se a solo

Hélder Ferreira de Oliveira (Viseu, Portugal, 12 Agosto1986), é um guitarrista e compositor auto-didacta, cujas influências vão desdea música clássica ao Thrash-Metal.

Começou a tocar guitarra acústica aos 15 anos de idade, 3anos depois comprou a sua primeira guitarra eléctrica e começou a praticardiariamente, desenvolvendo a sua técnica e capacidade para compor música.

Bandas como Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden ou Nevermoreforam as suas influências iniciais como músico, entretanto pouco tempo depoiscomeçou a ouvir uma série de guitarristas a solo como por exemplo MartyFriedman, Jason Becker, Tony MacAlpine, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, MichaelAngelo Batio, Gonçalo Pereira, Jeff Loomis, etc…assim como música clássica comoMozart, Beethoven ou J.S.Bach.

Entre 2006 e finais de 2007 viveu em Sierre na Suíça, ondecomeçou a escrever algumas partes musicais que mais tarde fariam parte do seuprimeiro álbum instrumental de guitarra intitulado “For Eternity”, uma obraclassificada como uma mistura de Metal Neo-clássico, Heavy e Thrash-Metal. Maistarde voltou para Portugal para finalizar e gravar o álbum nos Estúdios“Singular” (Viseu), misturado e masterizado por Ricardo Sousa (Campino), efinalmente lançado em 29 de Outubro de 2011.

In Tha Umbra news, keyboard player revealed and writting new record

IN THA UMBRA proudly present their fifth member, the keyboardist, Cristiana Silva.
Cristiana studied Piano in the Lisbon Superior School of Music, and is at the moment getting her Master Degree in Piano at the Évora Superior School of Music.

This is her first experience playing in a band, but last November she did a live appearence with Jazz musician Tuniko Goulart.

As for the band, IN THA UMBRA see this new chapter in their history as a step forward, and the moment couldn’t be better when the writting of the band’s next album is underway. Altough having already used keyboards in their most recent releases, courtesy of Fernando E. II as a guest musician, the addition of a fulltime keyboard player to the band’s line-up will also give the instrument a more important role in the band’s music.

About the next album, which will be the band’s 5th, some song titles are “Phos~Phoreo”, “Ascend Famine”, “Wreak”, “Swarm” and “Canção da Tempestade”, and the record title, influenced by the biblical Revelations’ four horsemen of the apocalypse, will be “White Red Black Flesh”.

Os IN THA UMBRA têm a honra de apresentar o seu quinto elemento, a teclista Cristiana Silva. A Cristiana é licenciada em Piano pela Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, e de momento está a fazer Mestrado em Piano na Escola Superior de Música de Évora.

Esta é a sua primeira experiência numa banda, embora já tenha actuado ao vivo com o músico de Jazz Tuniko Goulart, em Novembro passado.

Quanto aos IN THA UMBRA, vêem este novo capítulo na história da banda como um passo em frente, no momento certo, pois a banda encontra-se em fase de composição do próximo álbum. Embora os teclados sejam habituais nos últimos lançamentos da banda, através do convidado Fernando E. II, a introdução de uma teclista na banda vai abrir um espaço de maior relevo para este instrumento na música da banda.Sobre o próximo disco da banda, o seu quinto, alguns títulos de novos temas são “Phos~Phoreo”, “Ascend Famine”, “Wreak”, “Swarm” e “Canção da Tempestade”, enquanto o título do álbum, influenciado pelos cavaleiros do apocalipse do Livro das Revelações da Bíblia, será “White Red Black Flesh”.

O disco "Spiral of Fear", produzido em 2010 por Luís Barros nos estúdios Rec 'n' Roll em Valadares, (VN Gaia/Porto) foi recentemente licenciado para o mercado germânico.
A editora IceWarrior Records, vai lançar durante o primeiro trimestre do próximo ano [2012], uma edição especial, limitada a mil cópias, do oitavo álbum de originais de Tarantula, que incluí como bónus o vídeo "Dark Age".

Dia 4 de Fevereiro (2012) na Caixa Económica Operária em Lisboa e dia 18 de Fevereiro na Sala 2 do Hard-Club, no Porto.
Um cartaz, duas datas e três propostas bem distintas. Do hard rock ao heavy metal mais tradicional, três bandas portuguesas apresentam em concerto os seus mais recentes trabalhos.

Dia 4 de Fevereiro de 2012, sábado, a Caixa Económica Operária em Lisboa, recebe Lusitania-OldSchool.

Os Iberia, referência incontornável da cena hard rock nacional, apresentam; "Revolution", o terceiro disco de originais do quinteto da margem sul do tejo, reunificado em 2009. A banda de João Sérgio Reis é cabeça de cartaz na capital.

Antes, sobem ao palco os Tarantula, a mais antiga formação de heavy metal portuguesa com perto de 30 anos de ininterrupta actividade. O quarteto dos irmãos Paulo e Luís Barros, estabelecido em Valadares no início da década de oitenta, traz à capital "Spiral of Fear", o oitavo álbum, recentemente licenciado para o mercado internacional.

Os Gargula, colectivo composto por elementos dos saudosos Alkateya, dão a conhecer o seu EP "Devil's Work". Ao comando do quinteto olisiponense, o mestre de cerimónias João Pinto fará as honras da casa na abertura deste programa 100% made in Portugal.

Dia 18 de Fevereiro, também um sábado, Lusitania-OldSchool ruma à cidade do Porto. Pelas 21H30 o palco da Sala 2 do Hard-Club acolhe este cartaz com uma variante; os Tarantula encerram a noite na Invicta.
